We introduce ourselves
The association WIR BEWEGEN was founded by Maya Baas, Narayan Nepal, Tobias FLöscher and Christian Rupp in August 2015.
Our goal is to implement projects in Nepal that are as sustainable as possible.
Narayan takes care of matters on site, makes sure everything is going well and keeps us up to date.
We always try to raise money here in Switzerland so that our ideas can be implemented.
We all work voluntarily for the association .
information
When we found out about the earthquake, we set up a few pages on our personal website to let our friends know what we were raising money for. We would never have thought that over 10,000 CHF would be raised within a week. We were happy to accept this trust that was placed in us and will continue to do our best in the future!
And yet, when traveling in Nepal, you experience a hospitality and generosity from these people who have almost nothing that is overwhelming for us. When we were able to experience at the beginning of our project how easily and unbureaucratically we can make a lot of changes for these people, the motivation continued to grow.
Tobias and Christian have known each other since the sandpit.
Maya joined us in 2007 and since then the three of us have been traveling a lot. In 2010 we experienced the adventure of our lives together.
This is how we got to know Narayan and many other Nepalis. When Narayan came to Switzerland for a visit in 2016, Maya and Christine's paths crossed. Due to the enthusiasm for Nepal and the people there, common ideas quickly developed.
Even though we rarely see Narayan, the time we spend together is very intense, as we are often crammed into a vehicle together for hours. The community lives together in the village and there are hardly any places to retreat. Narayan and Maya quickly discovered in the countless long conversations that they have the same values. Material things are secondary, our lives are more about experience, discovering new things and giving back the privileges you have with gratitude.
We are very grateful to Narayan that he likes to tell stories - that through his father and his studies he knows all the deities, traditions and stories of his country so well and can introduce us to new peculiarities with every visit...
We were able to bring home many wonderful stories and experiences from our travels. The modesty of the Nepalis and their simplicity in life make this country a special travel destination.
It's the little things that make traveling there so special. The friendliness and contentment of the people, even though they live more than modestly by our standards. The generous gestures that are incredible in relation to our possessions.
The landscape is very diverse. From the breathtaking mountains, which are among the highest in the world, to the hot jungle with wild animals, everything can be found.
The people behind it
Maya Baas
Maya is the head of the association . Her creativity and willpower constantly drive the project forward.
She lives with her husband and their twin daughters in the Zurich Oberland.
«I really appreciate the friendship and the many conversations with Narayan. It's enriching to know a person who has the same mindset, the same values in life - even though we grew up in completely different worlds. »
Narayan Nepal
Narayan lives in Kathmandu with his wife and two sons (2017 & 2023). He takes his role in the association very seriously. He conscientiously looks at who is most in need; looks at how we can use the available funds most fairly. Of course, he takes into account the peculiarities of the Nepalis, which would be difficult for us to recognize and know. Although they live modestly themselves, he doesn't want any reward from the association for his work - the gratitude of people, the small gestures he receives - are worth much more to him.
We are grateful to have “slipped” into this task. Working for WIR BEWEGEN is very fulfilling. It makes us happy and also a little proud to see that we have already been able to clearly improve the lives of so many people. Narayan & Maya
Arjun Nepal
Arjun, Narayan's brother, lives in Bhumesthan with his wife, three children and mother.
He works in Phulkharka school. This means he is well informed about which families in the region are dependent on the scholarships. He has done a very good job over the years. Since there isn't enough for all children from poor families, he also looks at who is particularly willing and talented so that the money is invested as well as possible.
Christian Rupp
Christian always helps to find donors and supports us wherever there is a need.
Tobias Floescher
Thanks to him, Maya can take the time to work on the projects again and again, while he looks after their two children.
Christine Herzog
Christine met Narayan during her long-term commitment in Nepal.
She actively supports the association when good ideas or help are needed.
